Practical Kickboxing Classes Austin
At John’s Gym, you can take solace in the fact that we’re not an ordinary gym. We’re not into offering “cardio kickboxing” classes without teaching actual Muay Thai techniques. We also don’t have a free-for-all atmosphere where our instructors just teach what they want.
When you sign up, we will provide you with a systematic curriculum that will help you grow and gradually produce the results you’re looking for. What’s more is that none of our classes are boring or useless.
We’re always on top of making our curriculum engaging and enjoyable for our members. This is why many of our students have gone on to participate in real competitions, and some don’t even want to go home when our classes are over.
MUAY THAI TEAM CODE OF CONDUCT
- We’re a team. Respect, support, and take care of your teammates.
- Dress like a fighter. Wear muay thai shorts, bring the right gear (16 oz gloves and shin guards).
- Be early and ready for class. If you’re late, check in with the coach before hopping in.
- Respect your coaches. Pay attention when the coach is talking or demonstrating and follow their directions.
- Ask questions. Your coaches are here to help you learn and are happy to answer any of your questions.
- No shoes, socks, food, or jewelry on the mats or in the ring.
- Keep our gym clean. Return gear and equipment to where you found it. Take all your stuff with you when you leave, don’t leave your gear here.
- Be hygienic. Keep your nails trimmed. Keep your body, clothes, and gear clean.
- Stay healthy. If you are sick, stay home. If you have injuries, let your coach and training partners know.
- Â Have fun!
SPARRING CODE OF CONDUCT
- Sparring is earned. Your coaches decide when you are ready to spar, do not spar without their permission.
- Control your power. You are not trying to “win” in sparring, do not try and hurt your sparring partner.
- Communicate. Let your sparring partner know if the intensity is too high.
- Wear protective gear: gloves, leg guards, headgear, mouthpiece, cup; knee and elbows pads for advanced fighters.

- We offer Muay Thai Technique classes with 2 sparring classes aswell.
- Our Muay Thai class has a curriculum and levels of advancement so that you can stay safe and aren’t put into situations that your level may not be ready for yet.
- Dedicated sparring night as well as open ring for you to use whenever you’d like, as long as a class isn’t using the ring.

Yes we do. It’s important when you’re first starting out to focus on the fundamentals of self defense and Muay Thai. Our Level 1 classes are Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday 6:30-7:30pm

We have a safe environment for all levels and ages, that’s why we split our groups up by levels so you can feel safe that you’re training with people that are at your level who are looking for a safe, fun, and beginner friendly training environment, too. We have a strict “no-meathead” policy here, so you won’t be training along side meatheads who have no self control.
This really depends on who shows up to class. Our class sizes can ranch from just a few people to 20+ people. There will always be someone for you to train with and learn from.
Our sparring is reserved for our intro to sparring sessions and our sparring nights. Sometimes, depending on the lesson plan, we do ring work during class and touch sparring to simulate the real thing.
Yes. Each one of our teachers trains/spars with everyone in class ensuring you’re getting the best possible instruction and training at every level.
